About The Pastor


Reverend Derrick R. Rhodes, D.Min, Ph.D.

Dr. Rhodes did his undergraduate work at North Carolina Central University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in the area of Pre-Law, and his theological training at Gammon Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational receiving a Master of Divinity degree in the area of Homiletics and Worship.

 

Dr. Rhodes also obtained his Doctor of Ministry Degree at Drew University. Dr. Rhodes continued his graduate studies at Regent University, receiving a Ph.D. degree in the field of Organizational leadership. In addition, he did further studies at the Pastoral Institute in the area of Pastoral Counseling. The American Association of Pastoral Counselors recognizes him as a Pastoral Care Specialist.

 

A prolific author, Dr. Rhodes, has written several books and scholarly articles.

Dr. Rhodes is a member of Leadership Atlanta class of 2006. He was also chosen to participate in the Beeson Institute for Advanced Church Leadership, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky.

In 2009, the American Jewish Council chose Dr. Rhodes to participate in the Project Interchange Program to visit the Holy land and meet with leading Israeli and Palestinian academicians and policymakers to learn about the complex reality that Israel and the Middle East face, and gain current views about the Israel and Palestinian conflict.

Dr. Rhodes is the founder and first president of the West Georgia Ministerial Alliance. He is a past member of the North Georgia Conference United Methodist Board of Ordained Ministries; he is a past preaching coach for the North Georgia Board of Ordained Ministries; he is a past member of the Conference Finance Committee; Dr. Rhodes is a past member of the Interdenominational Theological Center Board of Trustees; past chairperson of the Trusteeship and Nominations Committee of the Interdenominational Theological Center; and past member of Gammon Theological Seminary Board of Trustees.

Dr. Rhodes is also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a member of Prince Hall Mason St. James Lodge #4.  He served in the United States Marine Corp, and received an honorable discharge in 1989.

Dr. Rhodes is married to the lovely former Zina Carter, his best friend for over 35 years.  They have been blessed with two sons: Steven and Sentelle.
